Baby Update – Week 12

Baby Update – Week 12

We had another doctors visit on Friday. The schedule said we were just supposed to listen to the baby’s heartbeat with a special microphone. Nothing. After several minutes of pushing the microphone around on my belly and not hearing a bit of the baby’s heartbeat, the doctor decided to do a sonogram anyways. It was a long wait while the doctor went down the hall to get the portable sonogram machine. Then we had to wait for it to boot up. But as soon as the picture started to materialize on the screen, we could see all kinds of bouncing, kicking and arms waving. Not just a heartbeat – we’ve got an active baby in there.

I, on the other hand, have not been so active. I’m promised that in the second trimester I’ll get my energy back. In the meantime, I have to squeeze 12 hours of rest into anything else I manage to accomplish on any given day. I’m already a little behind in school this quarter, but I’m determined to get back on my game. I think it will be at least another month before I get back into the swing of things with managing the blog and commenting. But, aside from the fatigue and the homework and a house in desperate need of cleaning, I’m doing really well.

Anniversary

Anniversary

Four years ago today, The Husband and I said “I do.”

Schwartz-Haley Wedding

I’m a lucky, lucky girl.

Schwartz-Haley Wedding

We didn’t actually get to eat much at the wedding, so on the way to the hotel, we stopped at McDonalds and got Happy Meals. We’ve gone out for Happy Meals every year since, and that’s where we’ll be dining tonight. Such a fun anniversary tradition.

Serenity

Serenity

Several months before my Dad passed away, my parents moved from their giant 6 bedroom house with no view to a tiny 2 bedroom apartment with this view.

view

Last August we had a family reunion in this little apartment with Mom, Dad, 5 siblings, 2 spouses and a herd of grandkids. We repeated the reunion in October for Dad’s funeral. Both occasions I marveled at this view.

At times I was frustrated that the old giant house was sitting empty waiting for a buyer while we were packed like sardines in this tiny apartment. But mostly I was thankful. I was so thankful that my parents were able to find this little apartment close to the hospital and Dad’s work. I was thankful that my parents no longer had to worry about taking care of the old house and that they were not knocking around alone in that big empty space. I was thankful my brothers and I get along well enough we were able to enjoy hanging out in the apartment together. Mostly I was thankful that we even had the opportunity to spend this time together.

Looking at that view reminds me of a time in my life where I was acutely aware of enjoying this moment right now. Not looking forward to something in the future, not happily remembering something from the past. Now.

Savor every moment.
