I don’t like peas. I would almost go so far as to say that I hate peas. Well, not really. I can appreciate them in theory, I know they’re healthy, I just really, really don’t want to eat them.
But…
As a mom, I don’t want to pass along my pea issues to my kiddo. How do I give her opportunities to make up her own mind about peas without inadvertently influencing or limiting her own ability to enjoy them? I want her to like them, but it’s difficult not to shudder in their presence.
Well, true to form, my kid finds a way to make being her mom easy. (Yes, I know the teenage years are coming, and no I’m not prepared.)
She is completely enamored with the little garden out back at our favorite coffee shop, C & P Coffee Company. She loves to inspect and name off the different plants: rosemary, oregano, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, and, yes, peas. She doesn’t just name them, she works her way through that tiny garden like a little rabbit, munching away on strawberries and lettuce, and, yes, peas. (she tried the rosemary and oregano, as well. Once.)
This little garden makes it easy for me to get excited and show some enthusiasm for the peas. I love the flowers,
and I just can’t get enough of those curly tendrils.
And as I’m ooh-ing and ah-ing over these beautiful plants, getting lost in the moment with my camera, my precious little girl reaches up and hands me a baby pea as though she were giving me a gift. I couldn’t turn it down, so I ate it. And it wasn’t that bad.

As a child I could not eat even one pea without it refusing to go down my throat, unless they were creamed peas over salmon patties. Now I love peas cooked in many ways or raw in a salad. BUT, I’m married to a man who doesn’t care for peas so I rarely fix them at mealtime. I’m glad your little one enjoys them!

Lovely shots. I particularly enjoy the one of the tendrils.

I despise peas, as well. But my one year old LOVES them so, I dunno! Beautiful pictures!

There is a HUGE difference between a fresh pea and one of those *shudder* things in a can. Fresh uncooked peas are a thing of beauty.
Lovely photos!

I don’t really care for peas, either, but perhaps they taste better fresh off the vine? Oh, I just had some purple carrots the other day. They were delicious!

I skipped peas this year b/c I felt like it was so hard to get enough to really make a bowl of them

I adore peas, especially sugar snap peas that can be popped in your mouth whole! I love the crunchy sweetness! Your photos are absolutely stunning!

I love peas – so much so that I always volunteered to be the one to weed the rows of peas in our garden when I was a kid – since I’d always snack on baby peas as I went along.
Love that your little one offered up a baby pea like a gift – and especially since you ate it.
LOVE all the shots!

That’s a cute story – I much prefer fresh peas over canned…maybe the little kiddo will inspire you to experiment a little!

As of last Wednesday I’m blessed to be mama to a 13yr old and an 18yr old (and also a 21yr old). These teen years are so different than these littler sweet pea years BUT they are still awesome.
Now I have moments like last night when my youngest in the middle of playing a video game gets up and finds me in the dining room – he comes up to me, leans over and gives me a sweet little peck on the check, says “I love you” and goes back to his game!
I’m loving being their mom

I’m always telling my kids they at least have to try something. My kids used that against me, “But mom you haven’t tried it since you were a kid, you might like it now.” Sure enough they were right. haha. I think she may just get you to like them again. Happy WW. Love the pics

haha this post is really funny. And good for you for trying them out! Beautiful photographs!

I used to absolutely love sneaking into my grandma’s garden and eat the peas right of the plant. I loved opening the hull and eating the little rounds of green goodness!!! Love your pictures.

Good for you! Baby peas are the best–much sweeter and less starchy than regular peas. If you buy frozen ones, make sure to get the baby peas or petite pois–and you may even start to like them
Thanks for linking up!

The only pea I like is when my husband calls me “sweet pea.”
