This is where the wealthy, well-to-do beavers live.
On our drive through Canada, we’ve encountered countless beaver dams and lodges, but this area covered acres of stepped dams with lodges back farther away from the road.
These little lakes created by the beavers were surrounded by babbling brooks, mosses, and wildflowers.
As it was, I spent quite a while traipsing around their back yard, and invading their privacy
I would have stayed longer, but mom and the baby were waiting (besides, I was wearing flip-flops and shorts – and walking through an area where all the little trees and bushes were sawed off by the beavers at ankle height)

If you ever get a chance, do. I’ve visited Canada many, many times. It’s one of my favorite places. But, like the USA, it’s very diverse, so plan to visit several times. You just can’t see it all in one trip.

That is so pretty and peaceful, even though there’s probably a flurry of beaver activity under all that.

I only saw a couple of beavers, and even they were keeping their distance from me. No work gets done when the humans are around… I’m sure I threw their busy schedule way out of whack.
It was a very peaceful place to stop

Ha! I’d get so much more done if I had a work ethic like that!

It’s so cool to think that under all the grass and logs are whole families of beavers! I would love to take a drive through Canada some time.

Those little guys put a lot of work into it. And they last. very solidly built. These were just the dams, I’ll post some pics of the lodges where they live soon as well. It’s hard to believe that these little furry creatures are such good engineers.

Oh yes, there is nothing like a refresher in nature to hit the reset button.

Posh indeed… too bad they were so over hunted that we seldom see them here in Western WA anymore… hope you had a lovely trip!
