<strong>master&#8217;s degree<\/strong>, Gem and I went on a 3000+ mile <a title=\"road trip\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/07\/dear-gem-month-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">road trip<\/a> with Grandma, through Canada to Alaska.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"green by coffeejitters, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/coffeejitters\/5979615769\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6140\/5979615769_b9f9e1ef48_z.jpg?resize=628%2C640\" alt=\"green\" width=\"628\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"wait. what?\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/07\/wait-what\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I completed cancer treatment<\/a>\u00a0with the help of <a title=\"thank you\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/07\/thank-you-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some amazing people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"bagpipes and the sea\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/08\/bagpipes-and-the-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We took a couple trips to the coast<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"062 by coffeejitters, on href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/08\/dear-gem-month-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I was on CNN<\/a> telling the world about my hero, Debbie Cantwell and the <a title=\"Pink Daisy Project\" href=\"http:\/\/pinkdaisyproject.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pink Daisy Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><object id=\"ep\" width=\"416\" height=\"374\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t say goodbye to the cancer experience just yet, I&#8217;m still dealing with some residual complications, but I am in the process of moving on. I did so much more than deal with cancer in 2011, but it featured prominently in my life.<\/p>\n<p>Before we get to the rest of my life, I did write up a post detailing <a title=\"what a day of radiation treatment is like\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/02\/walkthrough-of-radiation-treatment-for-a-cancer-patient\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what a day of radiation treatment is like<\/a>, which has been quite a popular post over the past year. I hope it helps people who are facing this treatment, and a little nervous about what they are in for. (I also wrote a similar post about <a title=\"the chemotherapy experience\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2010\/08\/walkthrough-of-chemo-day-for-a-cancer-patient\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chemotherapy<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What else did I do this year? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"I learned you can experience beauty without feeling guilty for not taking a picture\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/01\/reasons-i-love-seattle-1-sunset-over-lake-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I learned you can experience beauty without feeling guilty for not taking a picture<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"angry\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/02\/how-a-scary-looking-kid-helped-me-get-my-head-screwed-on-straight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I am still learning to look past the angry in others<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"change\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/02\/get-your-ducks-in-a-row\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I&#8217;m embracing the idea that improvement comes from habit \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"smile\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/02\/smile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Made a fun discovery in my journal<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Random act of kindness:\u00a0<a title=\"the camera bag\" href=\"http:\/\/coffeejitters.net\/blog\/2011\/09\/the-camera-bag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I received an amazing gift<\/a> that still brings a smile to my face and checks my attitude every time I use it<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am so ready to get on with 2012.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not doing resolutions this year, instead I&#8217;m picking a couple of words on which to focus as a kind of guiding principle for the year.<\/p>\n<p>I picked &#8220;habit&#8221; and &#8220;kaizen&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The two are related. By <strong>habit<\/strong>, I mean I&#8217;m going to be intentional about creating healthy habits, slowly and gradually, the same way my bad habits get their start. For instance, I&#8217;m gradually improving my diet instead of going on a crash diet cutting out everything at once. <strong>Kaizen<\/strong> was a new term to me, meaning small improvements made every day will lead to massive improvements overall.
